![]() ![]() They were both great guns, and had a great following at that time. The Remington rifles in the 721 standard grade retailed for $88 in 1954. A standard grade model 70 Winchester retailed in 1954 for $120. The Remington firearms in the 721 and 722 were in direct competition with the Winchester model 70. The Remington Arms Company was on the move. This also was good engineering concept at the time. They were drilled and tapped for scope mounts from the start of production. This in my opinion was a great concept of Remington’s engineering at the time. It also introduced the concept of a short and long action. They would be the granddaddy of the Remington 700 series introduced in 1961. The rifle triggers would be a completely redesigned system. The action was a total makeover of the traditional bolt guns before World War II. This was a totally new concept in bolt action gun design. The Remington Arms company started production of its models 721 and 722 in 1948. One of the best Remington rifles ever to be produced. ![]()
